  e f f e c t i v e   a r e a   d e t e r m i n a t i o n

A five day advanced course on the definition and transfer of the derived physical quantity of pressure. Attendees review pressure physics, the definition of the quantity in SI and the

primary techniques available to derive pressure from the base units. This is followed by a detailed examination of the factors involved in the derivation of pressure using a piston gauge. A component by component uncertainty analysis for pressure defined by a piston gauge is performed and the components are combined to arrive at overall uncertainty predictions. The final course section covers methods for determining and transferring the effective area of piston gauges including primary characterization from dimensional measurement, comparisons with other pressure standards and piston gauge crossfloating.
A special section on high performance piston gauge design and manufacturing considerations is also included.

A four day comprehensive course on the set up and operation of COMPASS for Pressure calibration assistance software. The course starts with an overview of COMPASS for Pressure objectives, general principles and structure. Attendees are then led through various aspects of COMPASS set up and operation for creating and running simple tests to the use of Advanced DUTs, advanced tests and macros. Actual, real time examples are run and attendees follow along on their own hardware.
